My rabbit has bloody eye discharge. Should I take it to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

My long haired rabbit has mucus like stud under his eye and I got a warm washcloth and tried to clean it. The I noticed a tiny bit of blood and I don’t know if it’s dry or wet. I don’t know if I need to get medication or what. What should I do?

It looks like an eye infection or tear duct blockage, it is quite common with rabbits suffering from snuffles. you will have to take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, he will need an antibiotic course and might also need his tear ducts deblocked.
