Kitten had pink eye, now face is swollen. Is it still infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! Our kitten had what seemed to be pink eye and we used a flush for his eye and the goopy eye stuff has gone away but his face seems a tiny bit swollen, could the infection have passed into his face but cleared up in his eyes?

Poor Ickis! It is unlikely the infection went into the skin of his face. If it is swollen around or near his eyes it could be that he is rubbing his eyes or face or he could be having an allergic reaction to something. Also, most eyes with conjunctivitis (pink eye) need antibiotic eye drops to clear up so the infection may not be completely gone. You can try some Benadryl (see link below) to see if that helps but if it doesn’t I would have your vet look at him to see if he needs some medicated eye drops, oral antibiotics or stronger allergy meds. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/cat/benadryl/
