Why is my dog having accidents at night and eating his poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Male | 1 year old | 10 lbs

My 1 year old rat terrier, Toby, has been wetting and messing his kennel at night, even after taking him out right before bed time. He has been house broken for months now and let's us know during the day when he needs to go out. Also, the past couple days he's been eating his poop. He only eats dog food and his appetite and water intake seems normal. Lastly, his testicles have not matured and, as far as I know, he has not been fixed. Please help.

It sounds like he may have a urinary tract infection. This isn’t as common in male dogs but it can happen. He may be eating his poop out of stress from a possible infection m. I would suggest taking him in to your vet first chance you get to have his urine tested and get him treated. I hope he gets better soon and stops having accidents in his kennel. Best of luck and take care.
