My dog has a quarter-sized flat dry sore. Is it safe to wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 4 days old | 70 lbs

My pet/dog has a sore the size of a quarter on her side. It's flat and dry. Kind of looks like a pepperoni. I noticed it a week ago when it was the size of a pea. I applied for pet insurance so I'm waiting another week to get her in to see someone. Is that safe?

If she is eating and drinking well, playful and it does not seem to bother her, then you can continue to wait. You can clean the are with soap and water and keep cortisone cream and Neosporin on it to help keep it contained until you can get seen
