Is crusty brown stuff in my new dog's ear a sign of infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 25 lbs

I just adopted my dog last week and was looking at his ear today and found a clump of brownish reddish crust. Should I be worried?

I am concerned that Rocky may be dealing with an ear infection. These can be bacterial, yeast or mites. I would recommend to take him into the vets for an exam and an ear swab to determine if and infection is present and if so, what it is. medications will depend on what organisms are present. Congrats on adding Rocky to your family!
