My dog sneezed, then collapsed and twitched. Is this an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Male | unneutered | 100 lbs

Hi, my dog started sneezing and then yelped. He was lying down and his head curled in towards his tail. His tailed curled in too and he started twitching. He then went all limp and he tried to walk but fell to the side. He seems to be okay now but is still sneezing. This has never happened before. Please any advice would be great!

I'm sorry to hear Joe is having an issue! Certainly must have been scary for you and him! It's impossible to say what caused this in Joe, but I'm concerned that this could have been a seizure. I'd strongly recommend taking Joe to see a veterinarian right away as seizures can be caused by a number of things including toxin exposure. It could have also been due to a respiratory or heart issue. Either cause is serious and requires emergency veterinary attention. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope Joe recovers quickly!
