Why is my older dog's stomach swollen, hard, and she won't eat?

Pet's info: Dog | Collie | Female | spayed | 67 lbs

Hello! My dog buttons seems to have a swollen stomach area it’s hard to touch and is slightly more swollen each day. She’s 8 and a half and was always a very active dog but since this started she seems to have completely changed she’s very down in herself and is only picking at food for a dog that has a large appetite I was just wondering if I should be worrying and if you would have any idea what it could be. Thanks a million, Hazel.

These symptoms are very concerning for a possible organ enlargement in the abdomen or even heart disease (causes fluid build up in the belly). I would highly recommend taking Buttons in to your vet for some testing (bloodwork and radiographs) to determine the exact cause of her illness. Once we know what is going on internally then we will know what type of treatment she needs to hopefully get better. I hope Buttons is able to turn around. Best wishes and take care.
