My 9-year-old cat has diarrhea from new food and stress. What to do?

Pet's info: Cat | Himalayan | Male | neutered | 9 years and 2 months old | 14 lbs

Hi there. I have a 9yr old Flamepoint Himalayan Cat who seems to be ill. He's had diarrhea since last night and got quite stressed out about how dirty he was. I'm thinking maybe its because he's started eating more wet food than usual rather than his regular whiskas kibble, however he is most likely under stress as well because he has been moved to a new home with us, and there are also two kittens in the house. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Toffee! Causes of diarrhea in cats are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, diet changes, new foods or treats or food allergies and intolerances, metabolic conditions like hyperthyroidism, kidney or liver disease, pancreatitis, and stress can sometimes be the cause. I would stop all wet food or at least the new wet food. If the diarrhea is bad then fast him for 12-24 hours. You can start a probiotic, I like Purina fortiflora which you can find online. If the diarrhea persists he would need to see a Vet to have medications prescribed. I hope this helps and I wish Toffee a speedy recovery!
