My old dog is panting, scared, and acting strangely. What's wrong?

My dog, Tucker, is 12 & pants all the time. However, for the past week he has been really bad. He has been acting scared day and night. Hiding under desks, behind chairs, standing/freezing in one spot. He wanders around. He wants out all the time just to want immediately back in. He’s drinking a lot. He’s eating more. He follows us around. We love him to pieces, but all this panting, acting scared and constantly wanting out just to want back in is starting to make us crazy. Any ideas? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 12 years and 6 months old | 52 lbs

I strongly recommend you schedule a full health check and blood panel as soon as possible - heart, kidney and hormonal conditions can all cause similar signs and older dogs can sometimes also suffer a dementia like condition. All of these can be managed medically if diagnosed early
