Could my senior dog's joint pain and infection be Lyme disease?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 5 months old | 4 lbs

My yorkie 4lbs 13 yrs old was treated woth antibiotics in August..she got better..last week she started to shut dowm and died.the vet said she had a infection but never said what it was..she did get better..tjen her joints got really bad .so we carried her ..do dogs get limes??? It is very prevalent here.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Maemae. Yes dogs do get Lymes disease and the prevalence seems to be spreading. Looks like you live in Maryland and I would suspect that you have Lymes there. I am interested in one detail though. If she was not spayed, it's possible she developed a uterine infection which untreated, can cause death in dogs. If that was the case, she could've developed a sepsis or blood infection which can infect the joints. Again, I'm so sorry to hear about Maemae. My deepest condolences to you.
