My dog has a bleeding cut near her anus with clear fluid. Vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 lbs

Sheeba is approximately 13 years old. She came to us from an extremely abusive home, so she's not in the best condition. Last night, she had poop all over her rear end. We were trying to cut some hair that matted with it when she jerked suddenly - the scissor scraped across her skin on her anal area. She bled some, but nothing extreme. This morning after she went to the outside in the backyard to go, I noticed she was bleeding again and there was some clear fluid. Does she need a vet visit?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Sheeba. Yes, I would advise getting her evaluated immediately. That area of the body is, of course, full of contaminating bacteria so get her seen by your vet right away. Most likely your vet will place her on antibiotics, assess the wound, and make other recommendations. Good luck
