My female rabbit is scared of a male. Will spaying help them bond?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 9 months and 1 day old | 3.5 lbs

My other male rabbit lives on his own but is so friendly to humans and other animals and has no history of aggresiveness. I have let him play with this female in a neutral territory and she is scared of him and will try to get away. After she is spayed and recovered, is it likely that she will accept him and get along with him? Possibly live together? If so, can I introduce him to her cage?

Hi! It is possible that after Mistie is spayed she will accept the other rabbit. However, just like people, some rabbit personalities just don’t ever get along. So I’d have your rabbits spayed and neutered and do a gradual introduction in neutral areas as you suggested. But realize the pairing might not take and be ready to intervene and separate them if necessary. When rabbits don’t get along, they can be quite aggressive and harm one another. Also, keep in mind that even after a male rabbit is neutered, he can store sperm for up to 28 days! Of course, this won’t be an issue if you have Mistie spayed.
