My cat's eye is sore with discharge after a fight. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old

My cat was in a fight last night and now has a sore eye. There is a bit of discharge from the eye and she is able to half open the eye. I have cleaned it with warm water. There are no obvious injuries and shes otherwise okay, just her pride a bit damaged. Is there anything you would reccomend or do u think she needs to see a vet for treatment?

Yes, I think she should see a vet for treatment. She could have a scratch on her cornea and need eye drops. If there are any bite wounds than she should also be on an oral antibiotic to prevent infection. Have your vet take a look at her to determine the best way to treat.
