Why is my GSD not eating? Is it the new puppy or being unneutered?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 9 months and 2 days old | 55 lbs

I have a 9 month old GSD and a 10 week old lab. I got my lab when he was 8 weeks old. to me, it looks like my GSD likes the lab pup, they play and he's really easy with the pup, but he has recently stopped eating. He is not neutered, could that be a reason? I just don't want to get rid of my lab, he is part of the family now and I'm a firm believer in once you get them, keep them. I just want to know why my GSD is not eating

Not eating is likely due to your dog being ill, not because he likes the puppy. I suggest you take Blue to a vet for a check up. Sometimes entire males pine for a female that may be in heat within a few miles of your house and then they stop eating. Castration would stop that and would be the most harmless reason. Unfortunately GSDs often have intestinal problems such as EPI (exocrine pancreas insufficiency) which could also be a cause for not eating. Take him to your vet for an exam to find out why Blue is not eating.
