Why is my Newfoundland dog drooling excessively with a runny nose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Newfoundland | Female | spayed | 3 years and 1 month old | 125 lbs

We have a 3 year old Newfoundland (female). Her nose has been running just a little the past week or two, but today it is running more PLUS she is drooling excessively (very very excessively). She's drinking and eating, no vomiting or runs, no lethargic, just never seen before drooling. Thoughts?

It could be that Rigel is having a dental problem causing her runny nose and excessive drooling. A dental problem could be severe gingivitis, an infection in her mouth, or a broken tooth. I would recommend taking her into the vet in the morning. The vet can examine her mouth to see if she does have a dental problem causing her symptoms, and can treat it.
