My dog is vomiting, dehydrated, and won't keep water down. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered

My dog has been poorly we took him to the vets yesterday as he started being sick, as we don't have alot of money the vet was very reluctant to treat him, just gave us some ampicare tablets and told us to give 2 a day, he could not keep the first one down and will not take any water we are spoon feeding him water and he took the second tablet eventually, to me he appears dehydrated. His eyes are sunkon, gums are dry. If we try and give him anymore then 10ml of water in one go he is sick.

You are right that Defor sounds very ill, and it's serious if he can't keep the tablets down. You are also correct that he could be dehydrated if his eyes are sunken and his gums are dry. He should see a vet immediately. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Carefree Credit online. http://www.carefreecredit.co.uk https://www.rspca.org.uk/whatwedo/vetcare http://www.easipetcare.com
