My dog licked Febreze, now vomiting and diarrhea. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Last night my dog licked up some febreze from the floor. His eyes and jowls swelled. I gave him a dose of benedryl 25mg , he weighs about 55 lbs. the swelling went down but he started having diarrhea. Now he is vomiting. Doesn't seem to be in distress. I gave him some plain white rice and he vomited that up about an hour later. Should I be taking he to the vet right now ?

Febrese can be toxic if ingested although it usually isn't severely toxic in relatively small amounts, nevertheless your dog is showing signs of gastrointestinal upset and possibly toxicity, to be on the safe side I would recommend taking him tp the vet to get checked and receive at least some symptomatic treatment for the vomiting and diarrhea.

If it was just one lick of spray that was on a surface, its extremely unlikely that this will be a problem. To be safe, you can contact pet poison helpline. https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com. They will be able to let you know for certain what the chances of a problem are and what to watch for, etc. However, I think it is reasonable to give him plenty of water to drink (but don't force is or syringe feed it, etc) and if it contacted his skin directly, give him a bath. If you notice any vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, or abnormal behavior, take him to your vet for an exam. Thanks for asking PetCoach!
