Keep in mind that no method is full proof, and it can takes weeks to months to fully potty train a puppy. It requires time and patience, and I can give you my recommended method for potty training a puppy. Start by keeping your puppy on a regular feeding schedule, and taking away her food between meals. Take her out to potty first thing every morning, and once every 30 minutes to an hour. Always make sure she goes out after meals, first thing when she wakes up from a nap, last thing before bedtime at night, and right before you leave the house. Take her to the same spot each time to go potty. Her scent there will encourage her to go. Stay with her outside each time she goes to potty, at least until she is fully house trained. When she goes outside, praise her and give her a treat. You might want to consider crate training as part of her house training. It allows you to keep an eye on her for signs that she has to go potty, and will teach her to hold it until you put her outdoors. The crate needs to be big enough for her to stand up, turn around, and lie down, but it should not be big enough for her to go potty in.

Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 2 months is still very very young to expect perfect house training. I recommend positive reinforcement-take her out often especially right after eating and use small pieces of a very tasty treat, verbally praise her and give the treat as a reward. Most dogs that are food motivated will quickly learn. When you are playing in the house look for clues she may have to go-suddenly stops playing and starts wandering and sniffing.. Immediately take her outside. There some dogs that are very stubborn and house training can be a challenge. Hopefully Gigi will pick it up quickly! Good luck!

They’re very cute! They are old enough to spend four hours in a crate. I would use a plastic crate, one for each of them, with no bedding if they chew it up. Take them out immediately before you leave and as soon as you get home. Praise them and give a treat when they potty outside. Always take them to the same place to go and teach them a command like ‘go potty’ so they will learn to go right away when outside in that spot. Three months is too young to expect them to be fully trained. Usually it takes until four to six months for them to have enough control to wait longer than four or five hours. When you are home watch them closely and take them out often so they don’t have a change to have accidents. Be patient they will improve with consistency and as they grow up. You can go right ahead and start now - the earlier, the better! :) You'll need to take her outside very frequently at first, every 15-20 minutes when you're home and she's awake. Go out with her on a leash, and praise and reward with a treat as soon as she goes. Inside, supervise closely at all times to prevent any accidents. See our article on housetraining puppies here for more information on the best way to do this: https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-rules-for-effective-housetraining/0 If you still have questions afterwards, feel free to post and we will be glad to help.
