Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | 16 lbs

Hi there, My 3 year old yorkie has an enlargered liver, and megaesaphagus that we just discovered. Her liver enzymes were elevated and she spent time in the hospital and they dropped down by half. What food do I feed her. Vet gave us roys canin gastrointestinal canned food. I just want what's best for her. Thank you.

I'm sorry Sophie has been so sick, but it's great that her liver enzymes have dropped! Royal Canin is a high quality food, and if your vet thinks she should eat Royal Canin GI canned food, then I agree. The vet knows which food would be best for Sophie giving they have been working with her in person, but knowing the quality of Royal Canin as a food, I think it's a great choice for her :-)

Royal canine gastrointestinal food is a top quality food for animals recovering from gastrointestinal problems (that includes the liver). Once she is not acutely ill anymore you can either keep feeding this food for the rest of her life or try out other foods for dogs with gastrointestinal problems or you can self cook. Here is a very good website for that: https://secure.balanceit.com/tools/ez2/
