Why is my dog throwing up gooey vomit with blood? Is it serious?

My dog threw up blood it looked like something was in there with her throw up. The blood didn't look really red it looked like it was mixed with gooey throw up what is that

Cindy could have an infection, parasite, gastritis from something she ate, pancreatitis, ulcer, metabolic/endocrine disease. You could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet, like chicken and white rice and see if that helps. If the vomiting continues or she becomes lethargic than she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can run lab-work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat her problem. Hope she feels better soon.

    Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Chloe. Oh no, poor girl! She could have a stomach illness, may have eaten something rotten, has a foreign body, pancreatitis or parvo. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If she vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. The GI upset could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn't have, bacterial over growth, parasites (worms and giardia), poison, a bleeding disorder, pancreatitis, cancer or intestinal blockage. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian today. Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth and other diagnostics may be recommended as well. She needs the correct diagnosis in order to receive appropriate care. Hi, she could have gastritis or a viral infections, or eaten something that has upset her stomach. It is difficult to tell without checking her over. I would recommend that you take her to see a vet and in the meantime feed her a bland diet of chicken and rice or white fish and rice. Hope this helps.

It sounds like she could have some gastric and intestinal upset. You could withhold food for 12 hours and then offer her a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice and see if that helps. If the vomiting continues and/or she becomes lethargic than she needs to be seen by a vet. She could have an infection, parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney/liver disease, endocrine disease, etc. Your vet can run lab work and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat. Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear that your pup is sick. There are many different things that could cause vomiting like this, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. Some possible causes would include a GI problem like pancreatitis or an intestinal obstruction, a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, parvo (if he's young and not fully vaccinated), or ingestion of something toxic. If he's been vomiting for two days and can't keep anything down, this sounds like a serious problem - so I would definitely recommend taking him to the vet today to be seen. He/she can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment depending on what is found.

Poor Coki! I would be worried too, as having blood in the vomit can have very serious causes including GI ulcers, eating something toxic, GI tumors, bacterial or viral infection, a foreign body, or clotting disorders among others. I would have Coki seen by a vet right away for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possibly x-rays. Once the cause of the vomiting and blood is diagnosed, the vet can start treatment.

Your poor pup! If there were two tiny specks of blood in it, I would monitor her for now. Blood in the vomit could be caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, GI ulcer, a foreign body, toxins, or a blood clotting disorder among other causes. You can try a home remedy to see if that helps the vomiting, but if she vomits again with blood, she will have to see a vet immediately. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

my small inside dog started having diarrhea yesterday. then today has thrown up several times and tonight he threw up blood. he's been eating normally. please help!
These signs are compatible with a gastrointestinal infection/inflammation. Blood could be due to extreme inflammation and a check up is needed to confirm this suspicion and treat appropriately. Bland diet, probiotic, and antibiotics are required to quickly resolve the problem. Further investigations may be needed (radiographs, fecal analysis and possibly abdominal ultrasound). Intermittent vomiting can be a very difficult symptom to diagnose as there may not be any obvious indicators as to the underlying cause. I recommend you contact your vets office for the ultrasound report and consider a full blod panel including b vitamin analysis as chronic bowel issues can often have low b12 levels and respond well to additional supplementation. I would convert her onto a bland, ultra low-fat diet whilst this is being investigated, my preferred option is royal canin gastro low fat (3-4 small meals each day) and also add a probiotic such as fortiflora. Ensure she is up to date with deworming treatments also. An endoscopy or camera study of the gullet and stomach may be required to check for inflammation or foreign bodies causing the bleeding

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. Blood in the vomit makes it more severe as that can be present with like gastrointestinal ulcers which could be happening as well. I recommend that you have Chica evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start her on medications to make her feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good day!

That does sound concerning. It is possible that she is having another flare up of her previous ulcers. Other causes for diarrhea and vomiting with blood in it include Addison's disease, intestinal parasites, tick-borne diseases, IMHA, IBD, intestinal cancer, among many others. I would recommend that Gubbu get checked out by a vet as soon as possible. After physical examination and a review of her medical history, the vet may recommend bloodwork to check for anemia and other relevant things. They may also recommend an abdominal ultrasound, which will help use get a picture of what her digestive tract is doing and looks like.
