My puppy has severe growing pains. How can I help him besides meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | 4 months old | 25 lbs

I have. 17 week old puppy and the doctor has diagnosed him with severe growing pains, I have two very active children that always playing with him and he gets really hyper and will start jumping around. But every time he slides or bumps into a wall no corners or hard falls he cries out in pain and for a week or two will baby his leg and not put it down. Now this morning he hit his other hind leg and refuses to stand on his two back paws. What can we do besides pain meds and anti inflatories?

You will need to have a chat with your children about pain and not playing so hard with Chaos. I would only leash walk him for a while and otherwise make him rest, possibly in a crate. The puppy should be off-limits to your kids for a while. Rest, anti-inflammatories and pain meds and time should take care of the problem.
