My cat is quiet, shaking, and has a fluffy tail after dog scare. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old

Our outside dog got in the house, and my cat jumped on the dog, and the cat got scared and hid under the bed, and the next day he was not himself, he is quiet and this morning, his tail was fluffy like he was scared and he was shaking, could this be a heart attack? What is it?

Poor Tiki! It's possible that he could be injured. It's also possible that he is still agitated and scared from his encounter with the dog - it often takes cats 48 hours or more to calm down after a scary event like this. The safest option would be to take him to the vet for an exam in case he may be injured. If his exam is normal, then I would recommend leaving him alone for the next few days to give him a chance to calm down and feel comfortable again.
