My cat has fluid in lungs and rapid breathing. Will he be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 3.5 lbs

Hey my cat was breathing rapidly and it got an xray done. The vet found fluid in his lungs. He's been giving him antibiotics and diuretics. Will he be fine? He's eating and sleeping well. Respiratory rate is 35-40 breaths per minute.

I certainly hope Thor will be fine! Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for sure he will be ok, but it's good that he is eating and sleeping well. The diuretics are used to drain the fluid in his lungs, and the antibiotics are used to treat infection. A cat's normal breathing rate is 20-30 breaths per minute, so Thor's is a little high at the moment, but not alarmingly so at the moment I would keep following the vet's instructions, give him his medications as necessary, and call the vet with any questions or concerns.
