Why did my old dog die suddenly in her sleep? Is it common?

My Great Dane was around 9 years old. One night she looked fine and the next day it appeared that she died in her sleep. Is this normal for old age? She was looking a little grey but was moving around fine. Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | unspayed | 8 years old | 100 lbs

I'm so very sorry you lost Koda so suddenly! Yes, that can happen to older dogs where they pass away in their sleep. She could have had heart disease that caused her to pass, but without a necropsy (an autopsy for dogs), I can't say for sure what caused her to pass. Again, I'm sorry for your loss!
