My dog is stretching front down, rear up and crying. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 26 lbs

My shiba inu. Is not acting himself. He stretches his front end down and rear end up and cries. Last 4 hours on and off. Can't get comfy. No vomit, no diarrhea, he drank lots and ate 2 hours ago. He went for a walk and pee and poo an hour ago. Seems to be his stomach? Pain? I have been with him all day and he never ingested anything. He keeps holding this stretch longer to relieve the pain. He has an appt at 10am tomorrow. Is there anything I can do in meantime?

Although I am not sure it is his stomach, I would recommend to withhold food for 12 ours and then put him on boiled chicken and rice until his apointment tomorrow, it might be a slight upset stomach or maybe a foreign body in the stomach. It might also be something else such as pancreatitis or vertebral disc disease.

The concern with this behavior is that you can be a sign of something more serious, such as pancreatitis or bloat. Both of these conditions in dogs can be fatal if untreated, and I would recommend taking him into a veterinarian right away. In my opinion, the fact that he is been doing this behavior for four hours now shows that he is in serious pain and he should be evaluated by a veterinarian mediately.
