My five year old German Shepherd has taken up the liking to the berries that come off of the Mexican fan palm he has been fine for a week just showing signs of diarrhea today cannot find anything online about the toxicity of these black and red berries. Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 4 years old | 80 lbs

According to the California Poison Control system, the Mexican fan palm is not toxic to dogs; however, given that Alister has just started having diarrhea, the berries could be causing him some GI upset, and I would not allow him to eat them anymore. To help treat the diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.
