My dog was attacked, has deep bites, and can barely walk. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 53 lbs

My dog was attacked tonight. He has multiple bite marks all over his body. A few of them are pretty deep and he got bit on the back of his leg and can barely walk. I'm wondering if I can let this heal on its own or if I need to seek medical attention. The dog did have his rabies vaccination and I did clean the wounds with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin. Thank you.

Without seeing the injuries, it is not possible to tell you whether you can let this heal on its own, but the fact that Bowzer can hardly walk tells me that the bite on his rear leg is serious and needs to be checked out by a veterinarian. It is good that Bowzer has had a rabies vaccination . However he will likely need oral prescription antibiotics to keep from getting a serious infection.

Please have him examined by your vet or at the nearest veterinary ER. Bowzer will likely need systemic antibiotics to treat infection and pain management. The deep wounds should be flushed to prevent infection which can lead to abscesses.
