My dog was attacked and is not healing after surgery. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | spayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 35 lbs

My dog had her spleen removed. She's 9 yrs old and got attacked by A dog about a week ago. She has holes in her chest that were left open to drain. I've been doing hydrotherapy/antibiotics but it's not getting better. Been to the vet twice and they say she is healing. She's starting to be more immobile and not eating, only drinking a little. She's also breathing slowly. I feel like she's dying. I can't find any help around here. Please please please help me

If the bite wounds penetrated her chest and/or abdomen and they were not surgically explored than she could have internal injuries that need to be addressed. If you feel like she is getting worse and dying than you should take her to an emergency clinic in your area right away as they are used to dealing with trauma and critical care patients. Please find an emergency clinic and have her seen right away.

I would relay your concerns to your vet again and see what they have to say. If you feel they have done all they can or are willing to, ask for a referral to a specialty practice or veterinary teaching hospital. They have board certified specialists in multiple areas and have advanced diagnostics not generally available to most private practitioners.
