Do hamsters need leptospirosis vaccines or can they get lepto indoors?

My flatmate has a hamster at home. It's taken as a baby from a pet shop. He doesn't know if it has been vaccinated or not. Can hamsters have leptospirosis bacteria even if they didn't go out of their cage and kept at home since they are taken from pet shop ?

Hamsters are not vaccinated, and there are no recognized vaccines as being safe for use on them. No, it is extremely unlikely that Bibi will have lepto; in fact, while hamsters have been used in research studies on lepto, it is not a disease found in hamsters. It is found in mice and rats.
