Should I worry if my cat licked a floor with toxic plant residue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Do I need to worry about my cat licking her feet and getting sick? She loves to play on my kitchen floor, I'm asking cause I had a Coral Cactus that broke. I didn't know the entire plant was toxic (Never would've bought it then) and I pulled the top off the steam, walked it to my trash can. (Not sure if it leaked any sap...) I looked online and learned the whole thing is toxic so I steam mopped after I walked my entire kitchen. Would steamed hot water without soap clean it? Do I need to worry..?

It was a great idea to steam clean the kitchen, and it should be good enough. If you are very concerned, you can scrub the floor again with a cleaner, and then steam mop one more time to make sure that the cleaner is completely removed.

If there is no residue, she should be fine. Bravo for being so diligent and careful! The sap can also be irritating to human skin, so I hope your were extra cautious and washed your hands thoroughly.
