My cat has a fat deposit that's growing. When should I see the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 3 months old

My cat has three lumps. The vet said they were fat deposits and not to worry unless they got bigger. One is slowly getting bigger. What should I do?

Measure the lump that is growing and then observie it . Measure it again 2 weeks later. Note how much it has grown. If it appears that it has grown more than an eighth of an inch in diameter you need to take your cat back to the vet. He will likely want to do a fine needle aspirate to check under the microscope. He can then tell you whether it is advisable to remove the lump.
