Why is my dog losing coordination and not pooping after eating turkey?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 110 lbs

I had boiled leftover Thanksgiving turkey with onions that had been cooked in the turkey at the time of Thanksgiving, but I boiled the leftover carcass for the dogs, I removed all the onion before boiling for the dog food fed my dog and since about 8 pm last night he's lost coordination of walking. Hasn't gone to the bathroom since he's eating, and he didn't go to the bathroom after he ate. But when brought outside he wants to run, but loses coordination about after 5 minutes of running.

This sounds like an emergency and I suggest you take Patch to a pet ER for an exam, possibly x rays and blood tests. Onion ingestion does not cause these signs. Patch may have an intestinal obstruction or possibly a bloat or other serious intestinal problem or a neurological problem not related to the turkey feed. Please take Patch to the ER.
