My dog is scared of my boyfriend and every time he picks her up she pees but will play with him. When she does pee in the house she will not go near him without being scared. Is there anything that we can do to change this behavior?

A good first step is to make sure Ruby is healthy with a vet check up and to make sure there isn't an illness causing her accidents. Some dogs are nervous urinators, and may do it as a form of "submission" where they indicate they are not going to harm the person. Your boyfriend may want to take things more slowly with Ruby and not pick her up when she is too excited. He can also offer her a treat every time she sees him to help build trust. As for the hiding after an accident in the house. It may be that Ruby knows she has done something unwanted, so is acting guilty to avoid punishment. Working on potty training as if she were a puppy again and rewarding greatly when she goes in the correct spot is best to encourage good behavior without fear of punishment.
