Is Ivomec Super injection safe for my dog's heartworm prevention?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 1 year old | 77.2 lbs

I have a german shepherd double coated dog..almost 13-14 months..so someone told me of injecting him ivomec super..!! What is it used for..?

I don't recommend you inject your dog with ivermectin unless directed by your vet. Ivermectin can be used to prevent heartworms and also treat mange but can cause serious side effects if used improperly.

    Some people do use injectable ivermectin in dogs as a heartworm preventative and dewormer - it's possible for this to be done safely, but I don't recommend it for most dog owners because you can cause a lot of harm to your dog with incorrect dosing. Instead, it's much safer to use a commercially available heartworm preventative like Heartgard or Sentinel - these are extremely safe and effective, and will accomplish the same thing that the injectable Ivomec does.
