My dog has a UTI or bladder infection. Is it an emergency? ER or wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 13 lbs

I think my mini schnauzer has a bladder infection. Do I need to take her to the ER or can I wait until Monday morning when my vet is open?

This depends. If she appears otherwise healthy and happy ., eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. feed her wet/canned food, add water to it and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder.

Poor Matilda! This blood in her urine could be due to a UTI or bladder stones. Your question is a good one. This depends. If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, she becomes unable to pee, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
