My cat's raw eye wound won't heal after months. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 10 months old | 2.7 lbs

My cat has a raw wound over his left eye that just cant seem to heal. Its has been going on now for over 6 months and i have tried pet antiseptic and steroid cream and he is currently also just been put on anti-inflamatory meds for 6 days to try and get the wound healed & give him pain relief. The Vet did not do any micro analysis etc per your article & is pushing for surgery to remove the eye even though the eye itself is ok. Can you suggest anything else i can do to help him?

Place an e-collar (cone) on Skids to prevent pawing or rubbing. Consider a consultation with a veterinary dermatologist. A biopsy of the area should be submitted for pathology. a culture and sensitivity panel is also an idea to identify any organism responsible for infection as well as the best antibiotic to use in treatment. The e-collar should stay on until the area heals.
