Why is my dog pacing, panting, has white poop, and straining to poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature American Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 45 lbs

My dog has been pacing around the house and panting none stop and her poop is white. Every time I let her outside she looks like she is pooping but nothing is coming out... what do I do?

Poor Arya! It sounds like something is definitely wrong. If she is trying to poop and nothing is coming out, it sounds like she is constipated for some reason. If her poop is white, this could mean that she has eaten something unusual that is making her stool unusually hard (like bones), or can be a sign of severe liver disease. Since it sounds like she's very uncomfortable and not able to poop at all, I would recommend taking her to a vet right away for an exam - he/she can do a rectal exam to check for any blockages or other problems, and may also recommend x-rays or other testing to help determine what's wrong.
