Why is my puppy's eye irritated and partially closed after gardening?

Hi there I was out gardening today and all of a sudden my puppy open can open one eye . I washed out his eye .he is settled but slightly irrated by it and keeps rubbing it. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | 4 months and 7 days old

Something probably got into his eye, could be a scratch as well, if it doesn't get any better within a few hours I would recommend taking Boomer to the vet in order to get it checked, the eye could be injured and you do not want to wait too long if this is the case.
