My dog is limping and won't put weight on her paw. Is it broken?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 6 years and 2 months old | 65 lbs

Our 7 yr old lab preceded with a limp left foot last night. She won't put weight on it. Its got inflammation. Pain when I try to examin. She's anxious. Only wants to be comforted. Which we understand. Like a child or one of us getting hurt. She and our German Shep 4 yr old play. We think he may have stepped on her and broken something. Is there anyway to submit a photo with this service.?? Please help!!

Poor Luna! The only way to share a photo is through a consult, which requires paying a fee. If she won't put weight on it, it's inflamed, and she has pain to the touch, then I would take her into a vet immediately. You are correct that she may have a broken bone in her paw, and she will need x-rays to confirm it. She will also need pain medication. Please do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. She also many need surgery. Please take her into a vet now.
