My cat is limping after playing. Is it a sprain or just needs rest?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | spayed | 9 months and 3 days old | 10 lbs

My cat was playing when she jumped back and then was favoring her right paw. I'm assuming she moved weird and hurt herself. She was favoring the paw and meowed a tiny bit, not a loud cry or anything. She was walking w/ a limp or just would hold it up while she walked. She will let me touch it and whatnot. Should I be concerned it's a sprain? Her pad was not hot and no swelling. Before I pay $ for the vet, is it possible she just needs to "walk it off" and rest for a little?

Restrict Spaghetti's activity as much as you can. No excessive running, jumping or rough play. If the lameness does not begin to resolve in the next 24-48 hours, have her seen by your vet. Go sooner if you notice any swelling or if the lameness worsens.
