My young puppy is wheezing and coughing. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs

I found a puppy under my car a few days ago and my older female dogs who are fixed adopted her. She came to my sisters house with me and we have had to teach her to eat and drink. She's very small and I'm not sure she was old enough to leave mom. But she's wheezing and coughing. And I've a never had a puppy do this. Also she has spots on her tounge and gums that are a blackish spots not sure if that is important or anything. Thanks

It is possible Dobbie has a respiratory infection. Have her examined by your vet for diagnosis and treatment. She may need antibiotics and supportive care. The vet will also be able to give you a more accurate age after an exam. The spots on her tongue/gums are likely normal pigmentation.
