How to calm my hyper older cat at night so she stops waking me up?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 14 years and 7 months old

My roommate and I spend all day with Rosie, but at night she is still hyper! She wants me and my boy friend to wake up and will jump on our heads haha. She is still very active for an older cat, but she won't fall asleep before waking us both up multiple times. Any advice how to keep her calmer at night?

Cats are nocturnal, and it is common that they are more active at night. It sounds like she is trying to play with you by jumping on your heads. You can try to play with her more during the day to try to tire Rosie out, but you may have to keep her out of your room in order to get some sleep at night.
