My cat has a broken tick with the head stuck. Should I go to vet?

Friends kitten broke a tick off in the cat. Pulled with tweezers and broke part of the tick off but the head is still attached.

If the head of the tick is still embedded in the cat, then I would take the cat into the vet now to have it removed. It has be removed as soon as possible, and if it's really stuck in the cat, the cat may need to be sedated to have it removed. Please take the cat into the vet now.

You can pull the tick off with tweezers gripping very closely to the skin. Even if the head stays behind, it is not a problem as eventually the skin will push it out. No need to take your kitty to a vet for this.

YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. I recommend using a tick prevention such as bravecto every 3months to prevent further incidents

Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! Since mites are not visible without the use of a microscope, I am going to assume you are seeing ticks on Tikvichko. Ticks can be prevented with only 1 preventative that I am aware of on he market right now, and hat product is called Bravecto for cats. Here is a website link with more information. https://us.bravecto.com/for-cats.aspx But to rid the ticks that are on him currently, and also to treat for his other conditions (likely an upper respiratory infection and possible tick borne disease) I highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and possible tests to make sure he didn’t get some infection from the ticks. The vet can also remove the remaining ticks safely without hurting him so much. I hope he is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes and take care.

Oh dear! Poor kitty. I would be concerned that it may not be safe to attempt to remove this on your own, especially since your cat is a bit feisty ;) Depending on how deeply it is stuck, it may be painful for your cat to try and remove it, and you could easily be bitten badly in the process. I would really recommend taking him to the vet and allowing them to remove it instead - the veterinary clinic has trained staff who can safely restrain him without being injured, or they can sedate him if needed to get a better look at what is going on and remove the head without causing pain or additional damage in the process.

This wound needs immediate attention from a vet as it is fairly large. If it is treated quickly before infection sets in it may simply be a case of a few skin staples. If the wound is older the cat will likely need an anaesthetic to fix the wound properly and antibiotics. Your dad has a responsibility as a pet owner to get her appropriate treatment. You should also think about preventative treatment for ticks.

It's a tick ! You need to remove it carefully in order to avoid leaving the tick's head in. Which is what would happen if you just pull it. You put some spirit on top of it and then with a pair of tweezers twist it to the right three times and to the left for three times, then pull gently.

This looks like a tick - sometimes just one is present, but you should still check for more to make sure. If your other cats goes outdoors it wouldn't hurt to check for ticks as well. There is no specific cleaning that needs to happen after a tick is found - the skin where it was attached can become inflamed but it should resolve after several days. It sounds like you should also ask your vet about a tick preventative - there are several options and you can see which brand your vet carries or recommends in your area.

If the area is painful I would recommend taking him to the vet to assess underlying injuries and possible infection within the wound but if the claw is loose and stuck in the fur it may be possible to pick out without trouble. Wounds from cat bites and scratches tend to become infected so I would recommend a vet check with your regular vet tomorrow, especially if any signs of fever are present (lethargy, reduced appetite or thirst, pain, increased breathing rate).

I have a male cat with a large spot on his left top jaw. I’m wondering if it’s a tick or a skin tag. It’s been there for a pretty long time.
I am not exactly sure what that is but it doesn't look normal so he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. The vet can sedate the cat and remove the lesion, if needed. A tick should fall off after it is full from a blood meal so, most likely, it is not a tick since it has been there for a long time. Call you vet and schedule an appointment for an examination.

Hello, Our cat has a lot of these parasites on and next to his ears. They stationary - I haven't seen them move. Are these flees? Ticks? How should we remove them? Thank you!
They do look like seed ticks to me. They need to be removed. Get a small jar and pour a half inch of so of isopropyl alcohol in the bottom. If you have a set of fine tweezers or forceps, grasp the tick next to the skin and pull, being careful not to pinch your cat. If your cat isn't cooperative, you can dap a bit of petroleum jelly on the tick, which will block their pores so they can't breathe then they will back out after a while. You can also bathe your cat in a good flea and tick shampoo labeled for use on cats (Adams works well). Trim his claws first for your own safety and put a drop of mineral oil or a tiny strip of a non-medicated eye ointment (Artificial Tears is a good one) to keep the shampoo from stinging his eyes. Apply the shampoo generously, work it into a thick lather and let it stay on for at least ten minutes. You may need to use your fingernails to gently scrape the ticks loose from the skin, then rinse him thoroughly, making sure to remove all the shampoo from his c
