My dog dry heaved foamy spit after kennel cough. Could it be bloat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog recovered from kennel cough. Has been doing well, a little diarrhea but we're trying to find her a food brand that works for her. She just dry heaved with some foamy spit and I heard her stomach afterwards. I'm just nervous about bloat but it only happened once.

This is probably still related to the kennel cough, it can take up to 3 weeks to resolve completely. A bloat is indeed a possibility, but it is not that common, it usually happens after a big meal, too much exercise/jumping or after drinking a lot. If you have a small dog it's not really a concern either.

Occasional vomiting is not uncommon but you are right to be cautious, monitor her closely for increasing abdominal pain or swelling or persistent attempts at vomiting. Small bland meals of a wet intestinal diet or boiled chicken and rice may help settle her stomach
