My dog has a lump under her chin after a fight. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 46 lbs

Yesterday by border collie and my boxer dog got into a fight. Today my border collie has a little bulge on the left side under her chin but not near her throat. Doesn't really seem to bother her unless its being touched and she now shakes her head because of the bulge. There's no bite mark or broken skin, so I'm kind of hoping its just swollen because of the fight. Should I keep an eye on it or take her in to the vet

Hi there, It may just be a pocket caused by the fight that is now filling with fluid, kind of similar to a bruise but different in appearance because of the loose skin. I would apply a hot compress to the area (make sure it's not too hot) to help the fluid move around and absorb, but if it's still swollen in 24-48 hours I'd have you vet check. Best wishes and thanks for using Pet Coach!
