Why is my dog's belly yellow with tiny black spots? Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 3 lbs

I have a toy Chihuahua Jack Russell mix she's about 2 years old and she has yellowing on her belly which is normally bright pink. She also has little tiny spots where almost looks like dried blood but it's not. I tried to wipe them off with a warm damp cloth but they didn't come off there tiny black dots she doesn't seem to be bothered by it at all but I'm worried

The auburn color to her fur is most likely salivary staining. So even if you don't see her licking she most likely is at night or when you are not home. This may be allergy related. I would call your veterinarian and discuss allergies. There are many different options from anti-histamines to daily medications (Apoquel) to monthly injections (Cytopoint).
