At what temperature should I bring my outdoor cat inside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 15 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

My question is I have a strictly outdoor cat except i bring her in when it’s sooo hot cuz I live in Arizona. I wanted to know hoe cold is too cold to where I need to bring her in. I know her temp should be 102 degrees if that matters. Her fur stands straight up so she doesn’t like the cold so what temp and below should I wait to bring her in. Thank you

Anything below freezing, 32 degrees, is considered too cold for them to be outside for extending periods of time (no more than 10 minutes). So, I would bring her inside if it below 32 degrees. Hope this answers your question.

Every cat is different in terms of coat thickness, & general tolerance to the cold. Certainly if it is windy, raining or snowing, cold tolerance will be lower. If she has a place to get out of the weather, she could be quite cozy staying out all night. But once the temps start to consistently stay at the freezing level, I would encourage her to come indoors. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
