Is it safe to burn scented candles near my dog in a small home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Is it fine to burn candles around my dogs? I live in a very little house and I just bought scented candles. The ingredients aren't labeled. I burned them for about an hour earlier but then I panicked.

Hi! It should be fine to burn candles around your dogs as long as they don’t have any concurrent respiratory issues (asthma, bronchitis, etc). If the scents or smoke are irritating to you, then I’d assume they are to the dogs as well. But if the candles are clean burning and your dogs are otherwise healthy, there should not be any problem. It’s a good thing to ask though, because some pets like birds can be extremely sensitive to candles and we recommend not burning them around birds. I hope this was helpful!

Hello, it is generally ok to do so however some dogs may be very sensitive to aromas and smokes. They could develop signs of coughing or sneezing. If you see that Bentley is sensitive to the scented candles then you may need to use the candles in a particular room or separate him from the areas which you wish to scent. Hope this helps and best of luck.
