Why does my dog have sudden lumps and fluid sacs after Benadryl?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 3 months old

All of a sudden my dog has raised large masses all over her body. Around her neck has what appears to be sagging skin almost like fluid filled sacs. All are sensitive to the touch for her. It started with what appeared to be an allergic reaction yesterday. I gave her benedryl. Today she has the saggy skin fluid filled sacs. Ideas? I have a vet appointment tomorrow

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Charlotte. Wow, looks like a very severe allergic reaction. Insect stings, spider bites, drug reaction, extreme food reaction are among some things this could be. She will probably need some steroids to try to get this under control. Watch her closely, if her condition worsens, I would get her evaluated immediately. Good luck

It sounds like Roxy is suffering from an allergic reaction. Given that the Benadryl isn't working, she needs to see a vet right away. She may need a stronger drug, such as steroids, to stop the reaction.
