My cat has a cold. Can it give my rabbit a respiratory infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old

My cats keeps sneezing with what I suspect to be a respiratory infection. Can this be passed on to my rabbit? Our last bunny had snuffles and died so feel quite anxious even though she shows no signs of illness.

Hi and thank you for this question. Yes, in theory the same bacteria from your cats sneezing can cause snuffles to your rabbit (although rabbits usually get it from other rabbits). It is recommended that you have your cats examined by a vet, and also tjat you minimize their contact Topaz.
